Toa Payoh Zone 4 RC Demostration on 6th June 2009
Pre-Demo Training
I was assigned a task to train up a demonstration team for 6th June 2009, Toa Payoh Zone 4 RC meets. I have altogether 12 Saturday to get a team ready for the demonstration. I came with a script comprising of 3 sections. First section was Chon-Ji pattern which was performed by 6 students. Second section was self-defense techniques which were performed by 4 pair of students. The finale which was also the third section was board breaking by 6 students. After the students have volunteered to go for the demonstration, a series of demo training lines up an hour before the actual class started. First was the trial for the first section. A group of students were put on trial to see how well were they performing and whether they were able to coordinate with each other. There were quite a few hiccups during the first few training until Mr. Kenneth Kuah, Chief Instructor, stepped in to correct. All training went smoothly and everyone seemed to be able to coordinate well with each other. They also knew how to react after several rounds of practicing.
Actual Day of Demonstration
Came the actual day of demonstration, we gather at Do-Jang at 6pm for a final practice before heading down to the meeting point. As the students were on the way there, anxiety started to fill them up. Another round of practice was conducted near to the actual performance stage to cure their anxiousness and to ensure their performance before them going up. However, when the emcee announces the performance by SG Taekwon-Do School, everyone started to get panic and I could see from their expression that their mind went blank. I managed to calm them down. Although the performance was short, I think this was a very good exposure to many of the students in the demonstration team. It allows them to do a stage performance in front of a crowd which boosts their confidence within them. No doubt this was my very first attempt in training a demonstration team and I found a few flaws which can be improved on. It will be a memorable event for the demonstration team and me. I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Kenneth Kuah and the performing students that for putting in effort to make this event a successful one. TaeKwon,

"I was very impressed with my students' ability to perform well and maintain their composure during the tournament as this is their first time participating. I was worried at first that they may forget their pattern or techniques but it turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I hope they will continue to train hard and improve as they grow with Taekwon-Do." commented by Mr. Kuah, who was delighted that everyone was happy and safe and best of all, everyone won at least a medal for themselves.
